FAQ

A gentle guide to support your cacao journey

What is cacao?
Cacao comes from the fruit of the Theobroma cacao tree—known as the “food of the gods.” Each cacao pod holds a treasure of seeds (or “beans”) surrounded by sweet, tangy pulp.

Once harvested, the beans and pulp are fermented together—a crucial step that develops the cacao’s rich, complex flavours. After fermentation, the beans are sun-dried, gently roasted to enhance their natural character, then peeled and ground into a thick, velvety paste.

This is our cacao: whole, pure cacao paste with nothing removed and nothing added. It’s rich in minerals, full of heart-opening properties, and offers a beautiful way to connect—with yourself, with others, and with the spirit of the plant.

Where does your cacao come from?

The cacao we use is Arriba Nacional, a beautiful heirloom variety from Ecuador. It’s grown in Guayas, near the coast, where they’re deeply committed to making a positive impact, supporting families with stable income while caring for the land, the workers, and the local wildlife.
To bring out its full potential, the beans are roasted slowly and mindfully at carefully controlled temperatures. This protects their delicate aromas and allows the natural flavours to shine, resulting in a smooth, rich, and layered experience.

Flavour profile:
Fresh, fruity, floral notes with dark chocolate richness and a touch of nuttiness. A true delight for the senses.

Is your cacao ethically sourced?
Yes. We honour the people, lands, and traditions behind this sacred plant. Our cacao is sourced from farms using sustainable, regenerative practices. It matters where it comes from, and how it’s grown.

How much cacao should I use?

It depends on your intention and how your body feels.
For a daily cup or gentle ritual, 15–20g is usually enough to bring presence and clarity without feeling too strong.
For a deeper, intention-setting experience, you can use up to 40g- always listen to your body. Start slow, especially if you’re new to cacao. It’s not about the quantity, it’s about the connection.

Can cacao be a coffee alternative?
Yes, it’s a beautiful one. Cacao offers a gentle, heart-centred energy without the crash or nervous buzz. Many people transition from coffee to cacao for a more grounded, nourishing start to the day.

What are the active ingredients in cacao?
Cacao is full of natural goodness. Key compounds include:
• Theobromine – a gentle stimulant that supports circulation and mood
• Magnesium – deeply calming for the nervous system
• Antioxidants – to support overall vitality and cellular health
• Anandamide – also called the “bliss molecule,” linked to feelings of joy and connection

Can I drink cacao every day?
Absolutely. Many people enjoy a daily cup of cacao as a moment of calm, clarity, and intention. Begin with a small amount (10g- 15g) and see how your body responds. Like any plant ally, it’s about building a relationship.

Does cacao contain caffeine?
Not exactly. Cacao contains theobromine, a gentle stimulant that supports your heart and circulatory system. It gives a natural lift without the crash or jitters of caffeine.

Can I drink cacao before bed?

It depends on you. Some people feel energised, while others find cacao deeply grounding and soothing. If you’re curious, start with a smaller dose and tune into how your body feels. Cacao honours your rhythm.

Can pregnant women drink cacao?
Yes, in moderation—we recommend checking with your midwife or healthcare provider first. Cacao is full of goodness, but every pregnancy is unique. Go gently and listen inward.

How do I prepare cacao?
Blend your cacao with hot water, a pinch of spice (like cinnamon or cayenne), and maybe a splash of plant milk if you like it creamy. Stir with intention, breathe it in, and sip slowly. It’s more than a drink, it’s a ritual.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to prepare a hot or an ice cacao.

What’s the difference between your cacao and regular cacao powder?
The cacao we use is whole and unprocessed; it still contains the natural cacao butter, which gives it a rich, creamy texture and carries many of its nourishing properties.

Cacao powder, on the other hand, is made by pressing out the cacao butter from the paste, leaving behind only the dry solids. While still useful in baking or smoothies, it lacks the depth, heart-opening quality, and full-spectrum benefits of whole cacao.

When you drink our cacao, you’re receiving the plant in its most complete and potent form, just as nature intended.

How should I store my cacao?
Keep it somewhere cool and dry, sealed tightly. Treat it like you would a precious herb or good chocolate. A little love goes a long way.

Can children drink cacao?
Yes, in small amounts. It’s a lovely way to share a nourishing ritual with your little ones just keep the dose light and sweeten it if needed.
